There have been licensing laws passed by governments of various states so as to prevent the issue of drunk driving or driving with intoxication. The aim of the legal measures is to make the life of the addicts simpler for the drunk drivers and ensure that there are no such instances repeated. In fact, it has been observed that young drivers living in the states that have a higher rate of control on drunk driving – through their laws – are susceptible to encounter lesser risks of drunk driving and conviction. States with less restrictive laws have demonstrated a higher concentration of driving under the influence of alcohol and heavy drinking.

On a national scale, one in almost 10 drivers aged between 15 and 17 years are reported to be driving under the influence of alcohol. Generally, in the restrictive cases, about 8% of the teenage drivers were reported to be driving under the influence of alcohol. This number is 12% in states that do not restrict driving while intoxication. According to the terms of the report that has been published, it has been found that about 6% of the young drivers had been heavy drinkers.

The states that have more of the restrictive laws of drunken driving have shown a 5% lower rate of heavy drinking and driving. The states where the laws of driving under the influence and licensing provisions are more restrictive, the rate of conviction is as high as 7%. This piece of information is indicative of an association between the teenagers who enjoy their drinking privileges and the actions that have been undertaken by the respective states in order to mitigate or handle the situation. This has spurred the need to protect the young drivers from the cases of drunk driving.

It should be made clear to the teenagers and young people that drinking and driving do not go hand in hand. They are tow separate aspects and therefore should not be mixed up. Moreover, there is no safety level of alcoholism especially for inexperienced drivers.
